MEMORANDUM FOR  NORTHERN VIRGINIA’S OWN SOLDIERS

Subject:  Welcome Letter

Welcome to the Fifth Regiment, 1st Division ANV.  I am Colonel Duffie GL Miller, the Commander of the Regiment.  On behalf of my staff, we want to take this opportunity to tell you a little about the unit you will soon join and convey to you that it is our distinct honor to welcome you to the regiment family.

The regiment looks forward to benefiting from your positive attitude and eagerness to learn your trade.  You are arriving here at a very exciting time.  This unit has just been promoted to Regimental status and will take to the battlefield as the new Fifth Regiment starting this year.  Participation in this regiment will make you a part of one of the fastest moving and most deployable units in the Division.  As a result, your assignment with the regiment will challenge you as much mentally as it will physically.

We adhere to the highest standards daily.  This regiment is the most professional, well-trained and disciplined unit in the Division.  You will find that the Fifth Regiment’s lineage is long and prestigious.  See the regiment Web page located at http://5thregiment.com to learn a little bit about the proud and historic unit you are about to join.

I encourage each of you to take a minute to visit the Fifth Regiment Homepage.  It has a wealth of valuable information that will be helpful during your assignment with the regiment.  There you will be able to see regiment upcoming events, current regiment information posted on the Dispatch Page, and the regiment command and staff philosophy.  In addition, there are many important reenactor and Civil War website links to help you, whether you are a soldier or a civilian.

I expect you to arrive physically fit, prepared to train hard for battle, and to have lots of fun with the rest of the men and women of the regiment.  It will be my great honor to lead and serve with you in this regiment.  If you need to contact me at anytime, please feel free to email me at Duffie Miller;bonnieblue.1861@yahoo.com or call me at (202) 248-4065.  Again, welcome to the Fifth Regiment family.
