 Standard Operating Procedures

Background:

Throughout the history of Civil War reenacting never has the position of Quartermaster been properly interpreted.  Many of the traditional roles of the Quartermaster are not valid in modern reenacting.  The reenactor provides his uniform, tentage, camp equipment and transports himself to and from an event, not the Quartermaster.  However, there are still many tasks traditionally done handled by the Quartermaster that can be done today.  This includes the collection and dispensing of fuel (ie., firewood), forage, straw, and stationary (organizational forms), and the laying out of campsites.  It is in theses services that the Quartermaster of the 5th Regiment strives to provide for his membership, and in doing so to help insure that every event is a safe and enjoyable one.
