The purpose of the Medical staff of 5th Regiment is to monitor the general health and safety of the Regiment. The staff will provide Basic first aid for members and dependents of the Regiment. The staff is committed to respond to a situation and coordinate care until arrival, if necessary, of local EMS. The minimum training requirement of a Regimental medical staff member is basic first aid and CPR. The Medical staff of 5th Regiment operates according to ANV regulations. Medical staff members will monitor the regimental camp area for cleanliness, healthy camping conditions, and sanitary facilities. The Surgeon will routinely tour camp streets on safety “inspections” and report items of concern to the company commander/1st Sgt of said company and to Regimental staff. The Surgeon will establish that each member of the Regiment who takes the field does so under full canteen. Medical staff will accompany the Regiment in the field to observe for adequate hydration and safety of the soldiers and provide assistance as necessary. If the Surgeon determines that a member is unfit to take the field, the company commander of the individual in question will be notified. 5th Regiment Medical Department encourages any member with an existing medical condition or allergy to wear a Medic Alert ID as an aid to local EMS/Event Staff. The Surgeon has a working knowledge of Civil War Era medical practices and is willing to talk to visitors and answer questions. Training is also provided to individuals willing to serve as stewards or field nurses. If interested in this challenging portrayal, please contact Major. J. Haines, Surgeon, 5th Regiment ANV. |
