The companies of 5th Regiment have completed the registration of members for the reenacting season of 06-07.  I wish to extend a heartfelt "thank you" to all of the company members who worked so hard to make this monumental task happen.  It takes teamwork and communication and each company did an excellent job!!

Major J Haines, Adj.

Also remember that the 145th 1st Manassas will be July 21-23 at Cedar Creek Battlefield this year.  Express registration is $15 and the deadline is March 31st 06.  Passes will be mailed to the address on the waiver form.  After March 31 the fee increases to $20 until May 31.  Late registration is $25 until June 30th. High priority:

When registering individual company members please note that a head of household, single soldier, or single civilian pays $12.00 to 5th Regiment.  This includes the $9.00 for insurance to ANV and the Regimental Dues of $3.00.  The registration form does not state this in the example for insurance BUT does state the fee in the final explanation.  I apologize for any confusion.

Major J Haines, Adjutant

We have mirrored the ANV insurance registration form that the ANV uses and have changed the mailing info to reflect that of our Adjutant, Major Jenni Haines.  The goal is to be able to receive in duplicate so that Jenni can keep one copy and send one on to the ANV.  This will facilitate the process of registration and standardize forms to minimize confusion.  The insurance registration form is attached below:'

The convention was held and the 5th Regiment had a good representation from the companies.

 1.  The age issue was settled passing with a vote of 94 to 13.   Ages 13-15 year olds may take the field in non combat impressions with adequate supervision and ONLY with the permission of the colonel.

This means that if your company goes to a small event NO ONE can allow an individual 13-15 on the field of battle.  Youth ages 13-15 are only able to participate when the colonel is present and gives his permission.  This will be strictly enforced by the ANV and the regiment.

2. No battalion or regiment should take the field without drilling their troops.  Safety inspections of weapons prior to any scenario is mandatory.  Dawn tacticals should be discouraged due to the dangerous factors of such.  All scenarios are optional.  ANV colonels retain the option of keeping all or part of their units out of any scenario.

3.  The three Max Effort events that ANV will participate in next year are the following:

New Market  May 20-21
1st Manassas  July 21-23  (Early registration deadline is March 31, 06.  Price is 15.00)
Cedar Creek  Oct 20-22

If you have any questions regarding the age issue please contact colonel Miller or Jenni Haines.   We need to make sure that each company commander has a good understanding of this issue.

Headquarters, 1st Division, ANV

ANV Age Limit Rule:
No person under the age of sixteen years shall participate with any ANV unit, in any simulated combat scenario, at ANV maximum effort events or at ANV division sponsored/co-sponsored or hosted/co-hosted events except as provided herein.  ANV unit members, twelve through fifteen years of age (inclusive), may participate, with appropriate supervision, in such scenarios as functional musicians or as other unarmed non-combatants in historically accurate impressions only by permission of their respective ANV battalion or regiment commanders.  No person, under the age of twelve years, shall participate in any capacity on the field during such scenarios.  No part of this rule shall prevent ANV battalion and regiment commanders from implementing cadet, Junior Reserve, or other youth programs for reenactors twelve through fifteen years of age (inclusive) for participation at such events.  Battalion and regiment colonels shall establish and ensure enforcement of age and safety regulations for such programs within their battalions for this age group.

Pre Scenario Drill:
As a safety guideline, no ANV battalion or regiment should take the field in a battle or tactical scenario without having first conducted a drill at the event.  Safety inspections prior to all scenarios where weapons are used are mandatory.  Dawn tacticals should be discouraged as such scenarios tend to combine several potentially dangerous factors.  All scenarios are optional.  ANV colonels retain the option of keeping all or part of their units out of any scenario.
